DMS-700 Network Audio Player

About the DMS-700 Network Audio Player

DMS-700 is a third generation high resolution streaming music player in Cary Audio line up. DMS-700 offers stable and mature digital network audio technologies and straightforward firmware updates to keep it state-of-the-art for many years to come.

Practically limitless and endless supply of high quality music for your hi-fi system — that’s the mission of DMS-700 network player. Sophisticated networking technologies for MU-MIMO 5 Ghz Wi-Fi and wired LAN connections go hand in hand with refined analogue amplification, super stable power supplies and a very unusual DAC.

Digital-to-analogue conversion inside DMS-700 is based on a multibit 4-channel chip from Asahi-Kasei (AK4499EQ) but with an important twist. Low level linearity, exemplar signal-to-noise ratio and temporal domain fidelity is assured by custom coding in a FPGA. This is a novel approach not possible in the early years of digital audio when passive multibit DAC chips were praised for natural sound and good tone colour while being criticized by some audiophiles for harshness and electronic glare. Cary Audio approach refreshes the passive multibit resistor ladder (R2R) conversion technology and streamlines it into high resolution audio of 2021 and beyond.

The digital circuitry alone does not account for the overall sound. Cary Audio is renowned for designing spectacularly musical analog circuits. Rather than using a simple analog buffer stage post DAC chip, we designed a full no compromise in-house analog stage coupled to massive power supplies for both the digital and analog stages. Any DAC audio component is a sum of its parts. As important as the DAC chips themselves are, it’s the designed pre and post DAC chip that gives our Cary Audio DMS products their famous signature sound.

Cary Audio is not known for change for the sake of change alone. The new DMS-700 represents a significant step forward in network and internet music streaming sound reproduction, while further solidifying the Cary Audio DMS platform and range of products as the absolute best there is for network audio.

DMS-700 is Roon Ready device and is bit-to-bit transparent for Roon playback. When used in Roon ecosystem it’s controlled via Roon App.

Otherwise DMS-700 has an IR-remote, control app for iOS and Android devices, trigger remote on/off, or can be a networked audio endpoint for your favourite UPnP/DLNA app.

Music sources for DMS-700 include but are not limited to: TIDAL (with MQA 16x hardware decoder), Qobuz, Spotify and Spotify Connect, vTuner internet music subscriptions; network streaming from NAS or servers; file playback from 3 USB-A & 1 SD Card slots; digital sources connected to DMS-700 inputs (USB, coaxial, optical), AirPlay and Bluetooth AptX HD wireless.

With USB-drives or SD-card, attached to DMS-700 host slots, the player can also provide NAS duties for your home network. Other notable features include innovative Crystek Oscillator Clock for low phase error, Multisource playlist creation, Pure Audio mode, Sleep timer and a new LCD screen with twice the resolution of previous DMS models, at 1600 x 1200 dpi.

MQA (Master Quality Authenticated)
The DMS-700 includes MQA technology, which enables you to play back MQA audio files and streams, delivering the sound of the original master recording. The DMS-700 LED glows green or blue to indicate that the unit is decoding and playing an MQA stream or file, and denotes provenance to ensure that the sound is identical to that of the source material. It glows blue to indicate it is playing an MQA Studio file, which has either been approved in the studio by the artist/producer or has been verified by the copyright owner.
